Although I had a great time, It was quite interesting.
I think we would have to agree that, if you have been to a genealogical convention before, there is a certain age bracket there that is in attendance. I am not in that age bracket, and I have been told by many that I look even younger than what my age actually is.
So yes, whilst browsing the vendors and discussing topics with them, and in the lectures, my husband and I did tend to receive a few looks from fellow genealogists. I am not saying that anyone was rude, not at all. Just, looks. Until we were at Jamboree, and was talking with a vendor and she told me that it was nice that someone “from the younger generation is interested in genealogy", and that it must be helpful to have older family members to help in my research. I am almost 40, and all my older generation have passed on. I just think it is interesting what people assume. I know she did not mean anything by her comment, and I take the compliment any day, but again, I just think it is interesting. So we joked a little and I laughed and said that I think I may be a minority here, and she agreed and said, “yes, I think you are".
So here is my question: Why is it that genealogy is only for the older generation? Or is that just an assumption?
